Becoming & Being Sassy Sally's
Sassy Sally's is a collection of handmade goods by independent & mostly local designers, based in Ventura, California under the direction & vision of owner, Lindsay Miller. It is founded on a philosophy of sustainability, individuality, originality, and all things made by hand in the U.S., with styles that are creative, fun, and eclectic. Products put sassiness in your everyday & possess that special touch of originality. Many items are one-of-a-kind or limited editions, so you can feel good about having something rare. Recycled materials are used to construct many of the goods, taking the environment into account. Sassy Sally's supports creativity, diversity, social awareness, & economic responsibility.
Owner Lindsay Miller also creates her own line of one-of-a-kind designs by reworking and restyling vintage and other recycled garments, that are whimsical and feminine (see Lindsy Miller Collection & Lindsay Miller Bio). This line is produced under her name.
Sassy Sally's was originally inspired by Miller's desire to follow her passions for fashion, art, vintage, and environmentalism. Besides her own clothing line, she also wanted to promote and showcase other small-scale and independent designers who are a part of the Indie culture and to mix in original vintage items. She intended to provide something truly different to the community that was a response to the same repetitive styles and exploitations of mass-production that are contributing to a homogeneous world. Through this vision she hoped to spread awareness about supporting locally-made and recycling materials for new goods, plus expose people to the amazing thriving culture out there of diversity and ingenuity.
In May 2005 the first location of Sassy Sally's opened in a tiny, tucked away spot in Downtown Ventura. Since then it has had 2 more incarnations. Once when it moved to a more prominent and charming location in the courtyard on Main Street. And second, when in June 2008 it was expanded. It has since closed in January & is exclusively online now.
