Lindsay Miller moved to California in 2000. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, Miller developed an interest in fashion design at any early age from watching her grandmother sew, who was a boundless seamstress. Playing with the many tchotchkes and fashions of decades-gone-by that were always a part of her childhood house (of which her mother grew-up) instilled a nostalgic appreciation of vintage. Spending vacations in the outdoors and around many animals gave her a deep respect for the environment. These are the foundations that inspire her one-of-a-kind, whimsical creations from recycled garments.
As an adolescent, out of both her own creativity and a strong drive for originality she began playing around with re-designing store-bought fashions. Designing her own fashions persisted, while teaching herself the skills & techniques as she progressed. But it was only a hobby as she went on to get an environmental Science degree, with an intention to help save the planet! Only later, after working for the talented jewelry designer & artist, Jes MaHarry, did she realize her own desire to create for a living. The commitment to open a boutique gave her the incentive to again dive into designing fashion, in a richer way than ever before. In May 2005 Miller opened Sassy Sally's Indie Boutique in Downtown Ventura, CA.
Miller's garments begin as recycled pieces that are then transformed through reconstructing, restyling, or embellishing. No two are alike. She often incorporates unique vintage details or fabric that bring a historic, timeless beauty to the piece. She likes combining the old with the new. She believes we should feel free to express our personalities through our own style, so we can proudly stand apart from others. She believes in embracing diversity. She believes that using reclaimed materials is glamorous and being wasteful is not. She thinks that saving used clothing from the trash and transforming it into a work of art is her small contribution towards saving the planet. She thinks we should be bold with our style while feel good wearing it. (Her designs can also be seen/bought at www.lindsaymillerfashion.etsy.com)
Miller now lives walking distance to the beach and charming Downtown Ventura, with her supportive boyfriend and two lovable, quirky cats.
In January 2009, Sassy Sally's boutique officially closed and moved exclusively online.
